Its the increase in the temperature of a region due to the presence of the concrete structures when compared with surrounding sub urban or rural place.
It is an adverse effect of the urbanization which results in increase in concrete structures that absorbs more solar radiations and ultimately heats up the place. where as the green areas makes more canopy and it retains more moisture, therefore it helps in maintaining the temperature at optimal level of a region.

High Benzene level in the traffic intersections in Delhi -
High concentration of “Benzene” - a volatile compound of the petrol had been reported in the high traffic zones in the Delhi.
